Blogs
What's a
blog? That's short for Web log, an online journal of sorts. Check
out our Blogs regularly for an early alert (before it shows up in
our newsletter) to new and interesting things we have found in our
ongoing search for information about the Hong Kong Disciplined Services.
Let us know if you have a blog -- we'll link it here.
Two
new BSTS postings
made to the Buy/Sell/Trade/Swap (BSTS) page. One from a Former RHKP
Officer and one from a Civil Aid Badge Collector.
The BSTS page can be accessed by clicking

New
BSTS posting
made to the Buy/Sell/Trade/Swap (BSTS) page.
Little other activity as your webmaster is up to his ears in dust
and dirt as a result of home renovations. Stay tuned, back to active
HKDSC posting soon.

New
Page for Buying/Selling Trading/Swapping (BSTS)
As we have received a number of requests for various different items
- many of which we can not fulfill - we have gone ahead and put
together a posting board where members can list the items they wish
to sell or trade. The listings page can be accessed by clicking
here. 07.08.03-Tuesday
Not
much activity
in the past few days as your webmaster has been overwhelmed with
redecorating his home. What a mess. 07.04.03-Friday
However,
we are very PLEASED to have been approved this week by CopSeek.com
and authorized to display their "approved" banner.
CopSeek has
become the place where people come when they are looking for websites
relating to law enforcement and we are very happy to be listed in
their directory. Their banner will appear on our home page until
the next newsletter and then we'll move it to the Hong Kong Police
and Royal Hong Kong Police pages. 07.04.03-Friday

Just found a very well done Customs Collector site on the Internet.
Maintained by Australian Customs Officer, John DeBelle, it is a
tribute to Customs officers and Customs collectors around the world.
His site has already won three awards from various organizations.
He shows many Hong Kong patches that I have not seen before. Will
contact John and see if we can use his collection as reference for
future newsletter material. URL is www.customscollector.com

Began researching awards and medals issued to members of the Disciplined
Services. These will be the subject of a special newsletter on June
22nd and a major addition to the site for Awards and Medals. Thanks
to Steve Veralls for his assistance in this area.

Found two interesting Police websites that are related and make
reference to the Hong Kong Police. One is a collection of police
patches and the other a collection of police caps and hats. While
they currently display several Hong Kong patches (including the
Immigration Service shooting club) they do not have any HK caps
or hats. Perhaps a member would like to offer a cap/hat to them
or at least a photograph? Sites are http://ibelgique.ifrance.com/Police-collection/indexINSIGNES.htm
and http://ibelgique.ifrance.com/Police-collection/indexHEADGEAR.htm
both are now listed on our links page.

Finished
off the June newsletter and also found one more newsgroup - this
one about Hong Kong Firemen. All newsgroups now listed on the links
page. Newsletter will go out the morning of 6.11.03 Hong Kong time.

Found
this site which provides all of the Orders, Decorations and Medals
of Hong Kong in one simple chart. < http://www.medals.org.uk/hong-kong/hong-kong-ribbons.htm
> Click on any of the ribbons and they will show you the ribbon
as well as the actual medal. Seems to be a lot of the medals missing
even though they have the ribbon.
Perhaps a better site is Protocol Division of the Hong Kong Government.
That site is at
< http://www.info.gov.hk/protocol/honours/
>
There is also a great Orders, Decorations and Medals Website which
is located at
< http://www.geocities.com/athens/4795/index.htm
> and their Hong Kong page is at
< http://www.geocities.com/athens/4795/HongKong.htm

Mailed
out two new HKPolice patches to new members - Robert Ingalls and
Diane Madry. Thanks folks, and enjoy your new patches.

Received a nice
e-mail from a gentlman named Ushaq representing Bullion Company
Limited in Rangapura, Pakistan. They are manufacturers and exporters
of all kinds of bullion embroidery badges, family crests, cap visors
etc. He can be contacted at bullion@skt.pol.com.pk It appears at
the moment that they do not have a website.

Member Dennis
Chan pointed us to two sites specializing in (among other things)
1/76 Hong Kong Fire Appliance Models, you may visit the site of
their retailers, Metro Hobby at
< http://hk.geocities.com/metro_model39/subject.htm
>
and Concorde Hobby at
< http://www.concordehobby.com/htm/mainpage.htm

Thanks Dennis!

Found several
interestng sites. One is maintained by member TST MCU which contains
numerous photographs of current Hong Kong Fire and Police Appliances
both on station and in operation. Well worth the look. < http://www.pbase.com/tstmcu/fire
> Another is the Hong Kong Emergency Services Network < http://hkemergency.uhome.net/e_hkengine5.htm
> which lists Hong Kong Fire engines divided into two different
areas - pumping appliances and special appliances. Check out the
"fire bicycles" on page 6! Yet another great site is Connie's
Fire Rescue with some great apparatus photographs < http://members.lycos.co.uk/firerescue/index.htm
>. And let's not forget the official Hong Kong Fire Services
Department homepage which has a great intro movie. It can be found
at
< http://www.info.gov.hk/hkfsd/home/eng/fsd_movie/FSD_movie5b.html/
> Too bad that one is so slow loading.
One other site
we found today that is worthy of note is the Tsz Wan Shan Fire Station
which is located at < http://members.tripod.com/twsfire/indexn.html
>. It includes a "Hong Kong Fire Engine Database".
If you know the license plate number of any vehicle, put it in and
the site will show you the station location, manufacturer, body-works
builder and some additional information about special equipment
on the vehicle. And of course, a great station photo of each vehicle.
If you don't know the registration number, just flip thru all the
vehicles in license plate sequence. Wow !
I found a number
of News Channels that are used to distribute photographs of current
Hong Kong Fire and Police Apparatus around the net. It is quite
a collection! Here is a list of the ones found so far:
