Hong
Kong Royal Police 150th Anniversary Stored-Value Card
This is
a stored value card for access to Hong Kong's MTR (Metropolitan
Transit Railway (subway)) service. It was issued by the HK
Mass Transit Railway Corporation in 1993 to commemorate the
150th anniversary of the Royal Hong Kong Police. It was originally
issued in the nice decorative holder shown below that also
had a brief introduction to the force.
|
|
This
is the metal case that the metro-card came in for presentation
purposes. It is essentially two sheets of metal with
a cardboard holder inside that has a brief description
of the RHKP.
The
MTR issued 250,000 souvenir tickets for public sale
to mark this very special occasion.

Unique
Royal Hong Kong Police Plaque
This is
a small wood-look plaque with a bronze metal logo of the Royal
Hong Kong Police on a self standing plastic back. The plate
on the plaque reads that it was presented to an officer Anna
Poon on 1 July 1997. It stands about 5-1/2 inches high and
4 inches wide.
This plaque
is very unique and odd because there officially was no "Royal
Hong Kong Police" on 1 July 1997. Great Britain returned
Hong Kong to China at midnight on June 30, 1997 - and the
police were then renamed "Hong Kong Police Force"
(without the Royal) and the logo changed from what you see
on this plaque to a similar one - but one that did NOT have
the Royal Crown on it. We believe this was either a mistake,
or a manufacturers sample - but none the less, the erroneous
information makes it a valuable piece, similar to misprinted
stamps or currency.
