Issue 1, Volume 2

Welcome to the Hong Kong Disciplined Services collectables Newsletter

The Response to our first newsletter was outstanding. We received a lot of positive feedback and have started to meet a number of fine individuals who share our interest in the Hong Kong Disciplined Services. To date over 700 visitors have come to the HKDSC website - which given the uniqueness and niche area of interest is a lot! Thank you for visiting, for your comments and for your referral of our site to others who share a like interest.

As we move forward we are beginning to add more and more items... and sections. Since the last newsletter we have added as Medals section to the Police group and also a Links page to point our visitors to some of the hundreds of other collectable sites on the net. If you are a member of HKDSC
and have a website that you'd like us to add to our links page, please email the webmaster. Remember: This site is for you!

The one area that seems to be getting little or no attention yet is the Bulletin Board. Give it a visit by clicking here and - leave some comments, thoughts, or just a friendly hello. It is an excellent way to talk about your particular area of interest.

Don't forget the free patch offer below for new members.

Castlehouse Vintage CarHong Kong Police Long Service Medal
This collectable popped up recently on eBay. It is a Long Service Medal from the current Hong Kong Police. I did not know much about medals and "named" medals until I met Mr. Bruno Ma and joined the OMRS (Orders & Medals Research Society) Hong Kong Branch. A small group of enthusiasts, many from the HK Police Force. Their objective is to promote and foster a general interest in Orders, Decorations and Medals. A great bunch of guys (and gals) and we'll be featuring some Hong Kong Disciplined Services Medals in the months to come. This is just the first we came across. More info at the Orders & Medals site. More information on Mr. Ma and his extensive collection in the next issue.

Customs & Excise Drugs Detector Dogs
The Customs and Excise Department of Hong Kong is amongst the pioneers of local law enforcement authorities to make use of drug detector dogs. The canines can effectively sniff out drugs in difficult places.

Currently, the Narcotics Dog Unit has a total of 24 dogs (this is Benny) including 7 passive-alert dogs and 17 proactive drug detector dogs.

Police Transit

Hong Kong Police Transit Diecast Model
This is a Corgi 58121 Hong Kong Police Transit. This is the best version we have seen with fantastic detail. It was only made in a very limited quantity and only 2000 were ever made available outside of Hong Kong itself. The model has a certificate and features opening rear doors and superb detailing! A true HK Police Collectors piece.

The actual Police Ford Transit Van is manufactured by Britain's Ford Motor Company. This model is made by Corgi Classics, the leading name in collectable die-casts, producing many quality, attention to detail, models.

Dive UnitFire Services Fire Boats and Diving Unit
The topography of Hong Kong means that water is a major part of the overall geography. As a result of this, and the fact that it is a major shipping port, means that the Hong Kong Fire Services are often called upon for water related services. The above photo is of the FS Dive Unit and the picture below is of Fire Boat Elite. Dive UnitYou can see all of the fire vehicles of the Hong Kong Fire Service by clicking

Bomb Disposal ModelHong Kong Police Bomb Disposal Resin Model
In addition to diecast vehicles, we have also uncovered an area of collectables known as "resin models". We were made aware of this by Mr. Ephraem Tsui who provided this picture of a Hong Kong Bomb Disposal vehicle. The original model was made by the HK Creation Workshop as a 1:25 Scale Resin kit. Since meeting Mr. Tsui we have received a 1:12 Scale Resin kit for a Hong Kong Police Woman Officer and a 1:25 Scale Resin model of the Hong Kong Police Land Rover 109LWB. We hope to assemble these models for display in one of the coming months newsletters. See the "Models" section under the various Disciplines for more model information.

Each month we will feature a photo from many of the Hong Kong Disciplined Services in our PHOTO GALLERY. Click here to see some photos of our fine service organizations.
